Mykhailo Romanchuk is a Ukrainian distance freestyle specialist who won 2 medals at the 2020 Olympic Games. For a time, the 2016 Olympian trains in Belek, Turkey at the international swim club Energy Standard under the British former world champion, James Gibson. The Gloria Sports Arena, where Romanchuk trains alongside notable names like Chad le Clos and Evgeny Rylov, is considered one of the best training centres in Europe. International Career Romanchuk first made a name for himself on the international stage in 2014 at the Youth Olympic Games where he won gold in the 400 meter freestyle and silver in the 800 meter freestyle. But it wasn't long before he was making waves as a senior swimmer. 2015 FINA World Championships In Kazan, Romanchuk reached the final in the 1500 meter freestyle where he finished 7th in 15:09.77. 2016 European Championships A couple of months before the Rio Olympics, Romanchuk was in London for the European Championships. At the meet he won a pair of bronze medals both in new best times. The first came in the 1500 meter freestyle where he finished behind Italian swimmers Gregorio Paltrinieri and Gabriele Detti in 14:50.33.
