Day 3 of the Women’s Mountain West Conference Championships raged on today with Boise State women and San Diego State women continuing to position themselves well through the morning for the night ahead.

San Diego State sophomore Frida Berggren (4:16.85) qualified first this morning and will be joined by teammates Caroline Mitchell and Shannon Herman tonight in the A final of the 400 IM. Look for Air Force senior Kimberly Davis (4:18.26) and Nevada junior Yawen Li to be right on the heels of Berggren at the halfway mark.
Boise State fired back in the 100 fly qualifying 3 for the championship final including Brittany Aoyama qualifying first at 52.69 this morning. With her time from the morning Aoyama would have qualified for NCAA’s last year look for the sophomore to take it out tonight for the Broncos. San Diego freshmen Summer Harrison (53.78) and Molly Coonce (54.13) from Wyoming sit at second and third for the evening.
San Diego State, Boise State, and Nevada have 2 ladies qualified a piece for the 200 Freestyle championship final. Teresa Baerens (1:46.69) leads the way with Emma Chard (1:47.02) of Boise and Riley Spitser (1:47.72) not too far behind.
The Aztecs caught a break with the Broncos top two breaststrokers slipping to 9th and 10th for the evening while qualifying 3 for the A final themselves. Emile Campbell of San Diego State looks to go after Katelyn Weddle’s Mountain West conference record of 1:00.65 this evening. The 100 breaststroke is up for grabs as the top 5 qualifiers were all under 1:02 in the preliminaries.
After an impressive night 2, Anika Apostalon (52.72) qualified first for the women’s 100 back. It looks as though Apostalon and the coaching staff have their eyes set on NCAA’s with her a little off her times from last years’ championships. Boise State doing their best to keep up with Samantha Wicks and Nicolette Cannon qualified 2nd and 6th for tonight. Finals kick off at 6:30 with the 400 Medley Relay up first.
