NC State Prevails Over Florida In Three-Round Fortnite Clash

The NC State Wolfpack came out on top in their highly-anticipated Fortnite Battle Royale clash with the Florida Gators on Wednesday night, winning the tie-breaker match 5-3 after the two squads split the first two games.

NC State opened up with a 5-4 victory featuring the two ‘A’ teams, and then Florida’s ‘B’ team got the better of the Wolfpack in the second round, 7-2.

In the tiebreaker, NC State got the job done on the strength of the performances from freshman Aiden Hayes, who was named MVP.

“The game against Florida went very well for us,” said the Wolfpack’s Fortnite’s coach, David Curtiss. “It was a great experience, and we all had a lot of fun. We struggled during game two, but came out victorious during the tiebreaker.

Aiden Hayes was fantastic, and we think others teams should do this on any game as it’s a great way to have some easy fun with your team and others.”

NC State player John Healy added: “(The game) was good. I was around a lot of talented people, I knew I didn’t have to do anything fancy to put my teammates in the right place to succeed. I would love to do this with another college team absolutely, bring it on.”

The two teams organized the event as a way to get to know one another and have some fun in the lead-up to their upcoming championship meets over the next month and a half.

The Florida men will compete at the SEC Championships Feb. 15-19 at the University of Tennessee, while NC State is preparing to race on the same dates at the ACC Championships at Georgia Tech.

The Gators and Wolfpack will then go head-to-head inside the pool at men’s NCAAs, also taking place in Atlanta at Georgia Tech, March 23-26.
