Manhattan Women Sweep Tri-Meet, St. Peter’s defeats Manhattan

UNION, N.J (11/20/21) – Brianna Shaw and Teagan Powell each won two events apiece as the Kean University women’s swimming team came up short in a tri-meet with Saint Peters University (120-110) and Manhattan College (123-105).

“We’ve come a long way as a program in the last two years”, said Head Coach Chris Swenson. “Two years ago we lost to each of these teams by triple digits, Today we took those same Division I programs down to the last relay.

The Jaspers improve to 2-3 overall, while the Peacocks improve to 1-5 overall and the Cougars fall to 2-4 overall.

Powell won the 100 Breast (1:12.15) and the 50 Breast (33.31), while Shaw took first in the 100 Fly (1:02.40) and the 200 IM (2:19.08).

Powell and Shaw teamed up with Sian Seeger and Katie Pileggi for a second place finish in the 200 Medley Relay (1:57.22). Amanda Davis also recorded a second place finish in the 500 Free (5:32.53).

“The future continues to be very bright for our program”, said Swenson.

Coach Swenson and the Cougars will return to the pool on Friday, Dec 3rd, hosting the Pioneers of William Paterson University at 6:00 p.m.

Union, N.J. — Saint Peter’s swimming and diving dominated the men’s events in a dual meet against Manhattan, with a Peacock winning 12 of the 13 races. The Saint Peter’s women’s team also earned victories in the 200-yard medley relay and 100-yard backstroke, courtesy of senior captain Natalie Davis, in its tri-meet against Manhattan and Kean.

Three Peacocks registered wins in multiple individual events, with fifth-year swimmer Oleksiy Polishchuk accomplishing the feat for the second time this season, while Luke Cillie and Thomas Granet did so for the first time.

Union, NJ – In the fourth meet of the 2021-22 season, Manhattan swimming and diving had a positive team and individual performances from swimmers in the 2021 Tri-Meet with Kean University and Saint Peter’s.

The men’s side was defeated by Saint Peters in its dual meet by a score of 172.00 to  65.00. The women’s team bested the competition beating both Saint Peters and Kean with scores of 119.00-109.00 and 123.00- 105.00.

Junior Mackenzie Tuttle (Highland Mills, NY) had a terrific showing winning four of her races and helping Manhattan win relays on Saturday. Senior Branden Deiss (Benoni, South Africa) had an impressive showing winning the men’s 500-yard freestyle.

Both teams will compete next on Friday, December 3rd for the ECAC Championships in East Meadow, NY. in a three-day meet.
