Lani Pallister Calls Catching COVID for 5th Time “So Random”

What seems like a thought of years past, the COVID-19 Pandemic, Australian swim star Lani Pallister recounts that catching the virus for a 5th time back in January may have come with some upside.

As reported by AAP News, Pallister looks at her time with COVID back in January as a small hill to climb, one that hadn’t had too much of an impact on the rest of her season.

“I got COVID in the third week of January, but that hasn’t really affected too much of this part of the season,” Pallister said in the report from AAP News. “It’s probably my fifth time getting it, which is so random. “But I figured: get it done at the start of the year and then it’s out of the way … and I’m happy with where I am at in training at the moment.”

Pallister secured her spot on Australia’s Commonwealth Games team earlier this week at the Australian Trials, winning the 400 free in 3:59.72, the 4th sub 4:00 swim of her career.

As mentioned, this was Pallister’s 5th time contracting COVID. Maybe none of those times were as impactful as in 2024, where she tested positive for COVID at the Paris Olympics, causing her to scratch from the 400 free and 1500 free, leaving only the 800 free to swim, where she finished 6th in 8:21.09.

At those same Olympic Games, Pallister still swam the 4×200 freestyle relay, helping lead Australia to a relay gold.

Pallister has been battle-tested throughout her career, previously describing how she was so disappointed to get COVID during the Olympic Games that it left her in tears in an older report from the Courier Mail.

Pallister made the training move to join legendary head coach Dean Boxall at St. Peters Western in Brisbane, where she detailed her goals, with all roads leading back to a shot at redemption in Los Angeles in 2028.

Probably is vaccinated, hence getting a mild case with (I hope) no longer-lasting effects.

I thought Covid was mostly done, but it’s still here. Probably very rare to get.

It is still about, but most people don’t test any more so just think they have a particularly nasty cold. If they’re vaccinated they’ll have a relatively mild bout.

Oh!

I was worried – like – she JUST caught it now.

Maybe she should contact RFK Jr. or Dr. Oz?

Oh, that’s right – sorry. No such thing as COVID for those two fools.
