New England Preparatory School Athletic Council champion Hannah Song has announced her verbal commitment* to swim and study at Columbia University beginning in the fall of 2027. She publicized the news on SwimCloud, writing:
I am incredibly honored and excited to announce my commitment to the admissions process at Columbia University, where I will continue my athletic and academic career! I want to thank my family, friends, Lori, and Matt for always believing in me and supporting me every step of the way. I am especially grateful to Coach Demerae and Coach Diana for offering me this amazing opportunity! GO LIONS!!
A rising senior at Phillips Academy in Andover, Massachusetts, Song has been a member of her school’s varsity swimming team since her freshman year. She also trains year-round with Phoenix Swimming, where she primarily specializes in middle-distance, distance freestyle, and the 400 IM.
Song is coming off a 2025-26 season that saw her drop over 30 seconds in the 1650 free, nearly ten seconds in the 500 free, more than six seconds in the 400 IM, and just over two seconds in the 200 free.
On the high school scene, Song won the 500 free (4:54.67), finished second in the 200 free (1:51.13), and helped the 200 medley relay (30.45 breast split) and 500 free relay (52.30 anchor) to silvers at the New England Preparatory School Athletic Council (NEPSAC) Championships in March, recording her current PBs in the 200 and 500 en route to her first-ever state title.
Song concluded the short course season at the MIT vs. NE NSSC March Madness meet, where she clocked lifetime bests of 4:25.89 in the 400 IM and 17:14.71 in the 1650 free.

A Division I program, the Columbia women finished seventh out of eight teams at the 2026 Ivy League Championships. Song’s current career bests would have placed 21st in the timed final of the 1650 free and made the ‘C’ finals in the 200 free, 500 free, and 400 IM, already setting her up to be an immediate contributor with two full seasons of training ahead before lining up at her first conference meet.
Song joins Isabella Zhang, Mia Mracna, Carina Dai, Sasha Volkova, and Tamara Kret in committing to Lions’ class of 2031 so far.
*Note: A verbal commitment between an Ivy League coach and a prospective student-athlete is not an offer of admission, as only the Admission Office has that authority. The coach can only commit his or her support in the admission process. Ivy League Admission Offices do not issue “Likely Letters” before October 1 of the prospective student-athlete’s senior year of high school. The Likely Letter, while issued after an initial read of the student’s application, is not an offer of admission to the university.
