GMX7 Weekly Wonders of Age Group Swimming – 1/7/2022

In our GMX7 Weekly Wonders of Age Group Swimming series, we celebrate swimmers of every age and experience level with age group profiles of some recent results.

Andrew Sito, 12, New Wave Swim Team (WAVE-NC): Competing at New Wave Swim Team’s ‘Distance Day’ meet on New Year’s Eve, the 12-year-old Sito dropped almost a full minute from his best time in the boys’ 1000 free (set at the same meet last year), clocking 10:37.71. On Jan. 2, 2021, Sito swam a time of 11:37.34. Sito also hit new PBs in the 200 breast and 200 fly at the meet.

Jenna Fernstrom, 12, Aces Swim Club (ACES-CO): The 12-year-old Fernstrom swam to a new personal best time in the girls’ 100 breast (1:08.89) at the MACs Winter Invite in Littleton, Colo., Jan. 2-3, while also nearing PBs in the 50 free (25.15) and 50 breast (32.14).

Connor Good, 12, Wahoo Aquatic Club (HOOS-SC): Racing at the Happy ‘HOOS Year Invite, Good recorded best times in all four 50s and the 100 IM, highlighted by his 27.92 effort in the 50 fly.

Ella Cowles, 13, SwimMAC Carolina (MAC-NC): SwimMAC’s Cowles was among the club’s many swimmers partaking in the 1650 freestyle during an intrasquad meet on Dec. 31. Cowles, racing the event for the first time in two years, Cowles dropped a minute and 45 seconds from her previous PB in 18:27.27.

Sloane Barr, 12, Aces Swim Club (ACES-CO): Racing alongside teammate Fernstrom, Barr hit new best times in the girls’ 100 free (56.66), 100 breast (1:11.01) and 200 fly (2:26.51).
