French Elite Champion Yohann Ndoye-Brouard Has Dealt With Back Injury and Concussion This Season

The French men’s swim team has been plagued with injury so far this season, and Olympian and French record holder Yohann Ndoye-Brouard recently revealed to French media that he has also been dealing with injuries over the last 12 months.

Ndoye-Brouard is fresh off competing at the 2026 French Elite Championships, where he won the 100 and 200 backstroke events, cementing his spot on the French European Championships team.

After the meet, he spoke with French media, and discussed the injuries he has been dealing with this season along with the conditions at the meet.

He first dealt with a back injury that reportedly “sidelined” him for two weeks of training, though his coach, Mathieu Neuillet, said he is back to normal now, if a little more interested in golf, which he watched while recovering.

Shortly after that injury, Ndoye-Brouard attended a training camp in Font-Romeu near the France-Spain border. While at the training camp, he crashed headfirst into the wall during a set with fins and paddles.

At first, the injury led to arm pain, but after returning home, he began experiencing dizziness. He spent six weeks confined to his house without any light or screens and received vestibular physiotherapy.

Afterwards, he was able to resume training, but was unable to compete in as many meets as he intended, and had to narrow his focus to only the backstroke events as a result.

He also discussed the climate at the French Championships. Much of Europe has been experiencing a significant heatwave, with the first night of the meet in France reaching 100°F (37.7°C)

He said, “I’m a little disappointed. The conditions aren’t ideal for performing.” He also reportedly dealt with cramps and a “feeling of low blood pressure” before and after his races.

Fellow Frenchmen Leon Marchand and Maxime Grousset are also both dealing with injuries right now. Marchand withdrew from the French Championships after just one day due to a groin injury, and Grousset scratched the meet after he fractured his foot during training.

Ndoye-Brouard will be back in the water in Paris next month, where he is a strong medal contender in both backstroke events.

France really got 49ers injury luck with their male stars. Or maybe it’s a blood demon for their World Cup team

That was also him, as far I know he has sort of a poor vision and sometimes can’t see the flags
