Jenna Fernstrom, a Summer Juniors qualifier, has sent her verbal commitment to join the Ohio State class of 2027 along with her sister Sydney Fernstrom.
I am immensely thrilled to announce my verbal commitment to THE Ohio State University to continue my academic and athletic career! I am forever thankful for this opportunity presented to me by Coach Bill, Coach Nacho and the entire OSU swimming staff. Additionally, I will be forever grateful for Coach Tom, Coach Greg and Coach Morgan for always making me be the best version of myself and of course, Coach Karin for being the best high school coach ever and encouraging me to chase my dreams. A junior at Cherry Creek High School, Fernstrom finished 4th in the 50 freestyle (23.29), and 3rd in the 100 free (50.25) at the 2025 CHSAA 5A State Championships. She was just off her lifetime bests at the meet, with her 50 freestyle time of 23.08 from November of 2024 still standing as her personal best.
She trains with the Aces Swim Club in Aurora, Colorado, and in March at the Speedo Sectionals in Austin, she set a new personal best mark in the 100 free of 49.92, dipping under 50 seconds for the first time. At that same meet, she set new personal bests to finish 25th in the 200 free, at 1:50.09 and the 100 fly at 55.68.
In July, Fernstrom raced at the 2025 Speedo Summer Junior National Championships, where she swam the 50 free (46th- 26.60), 100 free (55th- 57.95), the 50 breast (112th- 34.77), and the 50 fly (112th- 29.11)

The Ohio State women’s team is the reigning Big Ten Champions, after they came out on top of Indiana by more than 70 points at the 2025 meet. They have a strong freestyle group, scoring 157 points in the 50 and 100 at last year’s conference championships. They only brought in 14 points in the women’s 100 fly, which Fernstrom could hlep increase when she swims her first Big Tens in 2027.
On last season’s depth charts, Fernstrom would have been 9th in the 50 free, 7th in the 100 free, 13th in the 200 free, and 9th in the 100 fly. She has been on a steadily improving, though, dropping a second-and-a-half in her 100 fly last season, three tenths in the 50 free, four tenths in the 100 free, and more than a second in the 200 free.
If she continues to improve at this rate, she will be a very strong addition to the program.
She will join a recruiting class that includes her twin sister Sydney, “BOTR” recruits Jenna Frost and Lily Andruss and “Honorable Mentions” Savannah Bowers and Shannon Conway along with Paige Burkey. Conway is also coming in with strong sprint free and butterfly times at 22.99 in the 50 free, 49.91 in the 100 free, and 54.12 in the 100 fly.
