Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.
European Juniors medalist Nathan Muratory has committed to swim for the University of Michigan beginning in the fall of 2026. He publicized the news on SwimCloud, writing:
I have decided to pursue my studies and athletic career at The University of Michigan, as I knew I would get the best of all worlds; academically, athletically, and socially. I want to thank Coach Bowe and Coach Bell for giving me this lifetime opportunity. I also want to thank my family, friends, teammates, and Club Coaches for their support in this process. I am very excited to discover Ann Arbor and write history there. GO BLUE!
The French native currently trains with Canet 66 Natation, where he primarily specializes in backstroke with a secondary focus in middle-distance freestyle.
Being an international recruit, Muratory has never swum in the short course yards pool, as he’s competed exclusively in both short course meters and long course meters.
Muratory qualified for France’s European Junior Championship team this past summer, where he picked up a bronze medal in the 100 back (54.75), his first time breaking 55 seconds after going a lifetime-best 55.05 in the semifinals. He also finished fourth in the 200 back (1:58.82), dipping under 1:59 for the first time after cracking two minutes in the semifinals (1:59.22). He was also 25th in the 50 back (26.42) and helped France finish eighth in the 400 medley relay, opening with a leadoff split of 55.84.
Muratory most recently competed at the French Junior Short Course Championships in December, where he swam all of his current SCM personal bests. He won the gold medal in the 50 back (23.90) and 100 back (51.15), was the runner-up in the 200 back (1:51.63) and 200 IM (1:59.82), bronze in the 200 free (1:45.63), and sixth in the 100 free (48.78).
A year ago, Muratory’s SCM bests sat at 54.42/1:59.25 in the 100/200 back and 52.73/1:49.90 in the 100/200 free, while his LCM bests were 57.07/2:04.38 and 52.62/1:56.28. He’s improving quickly, which bodes well as he prepares to head to Ann Arbor in the next few months.

A Division I program, Michigan competes in the Big Ten Conference, with the Wolverines taking the runner-up spot behind Indiana at this season’s conference championships. Based on Muratory’s fastest converted times, he would have qualified for the ‘A’ final of the 200 back, ‘B’ final of the 100 back, and ‘C’ final of the 200 free, setting him up to be an immediate contributor.
On the team’s projected 2026-27 depth chart, factoring in graduations and other incoming recruits, Muratory is slated to lead the team in both backstroke events while also ranking fifth in the 100 free and third in the 200 free. His middle-distance range will be a welcome addition to the team’s medley and free relays.
His arrival is quite timely, as the team’s go-to backstroker, multi-time Big Ten medalist and 100 back school record holder Jack Wilkening (43.98/1:40.83), is graduating in May; he was the only Wolverine to break the 46- and 1:41-second barriers this past season.
Currently set to join Muratory in Ann Arbor in the fall are Oliver Shao (distance free/IM), Aiden Moy (fly/IM), and Lucas Young (breast/IM), who should all make for strong training partners over the next four years.
