Scarlet Aquatics’ Corey Su, a breaststroke and IM specialist, will join St. Bonaventure University’s swim team this fall. Su graduated from Tottenville High School in Staten Island, New York, in May 2024 and took a gap year.
Su provided the following quote to SwimSwam regarding his commitment:
I chose St. Bonaventure for it’s known academic life, as well as the camaraderie the team carries. I’m also excited for the years coming as Coach Mike and Coach Matt are solidifying us as the top contender to win A10s.
Su’s major meet of this past short course season was the SCAR NJS Gold Championships, where he produced his current best times in the 100 breast and 400 IM. He logged 1:01.38 in prelims of the 100 breast to take 19th overall, while he recorded 4:16.19 in the 400 IM prelims, advancing to the ‘B’ final ranked 11th, where he went on to chop off a few more tenths to clock 4:15.74. He entered the meet with best times of 1:01.52, a time that was set over two years prior in February 2023, while his previous IM best was 4:16.21 from December 2024.
In addition to his personal bests in his more primary events, he also swam the 500 free. He touched in a season-best 4:49.12 in the morning to move through to the ‘B’ final ranked 15th, then notched a lifetime best effort of 4:47.49 for 12th overall.
He also swam a season-best 1:59.86 in the 200 IM in prelims, sitting 12th before adding a couple of seconds to touch 14th in finals. He also notched a 2:14.67 season best in the 200 breast prelims for 13th, before opting out of contesting the consolation heat at night. His career bests in the 200 breast (2:11.58) and 200 IM (1:59.26) date back to this meet one year ago.

The St. Bonaventure Bonnies placed 2nd out of eight teams at the 2025 Atlantic 10 Championships. The Bonnies are led by Mike Smiechowski, who was named head coach for men’s and women’s swimming and diving in July 2022. He announced the addition of Matthew Lowe as associate head coach in June 2023.
At the A10 Conference meet last season, where they offer both ‘A’ and ‘B’ finals, it took times of 55.81/2:03.78 to make top 16 out of prelims and into a scoring final. In the IM races, it took clockings of 1:51.52/4:07.55, respectively. On paper, his best route to a scoring position looks to be the 400 IM.
On the team itself, he would have ranked 5th on the team’s depth chart in the 200 breast, 6th in the 100 breast, 6th in the 400 IM, and 7th in the 200 IM. The team is losing both of its top two breaststrokers due to graduation, so Su is a key addition for a team that is rebuilding that department.
Rising senior Mark Polos is the team’s top returning breaststroker with times of 55.43 and 2:00.75. The 100 earned him 12th and the 200 placed him 7th at the A10 meet this past February. In the IMs, rising junior Kevyn Collazo Torres clocked 1:49.35/3:55.98 for 11th and 9th at the conference meet.
Su is part of a large signing class for the St. Bonaventure men’s team. He joins Alex Aleinikovas, Gordan Cindric, David Mutter, Max Tucker, Marcos Bravo, Matheus Rinaldi, Willyan Matana, Blaise Sadowski, Emanuele Zingaro, and Cole Tangeman in committing to the university’s class of 2029.
