Coming out of high school, Hartman was a five-time California state champion and held the CIF state record in the 100 breast. Hartman immediately started turning heads during her freshman campaign. She was tabbed as SEC Freshman of the Week on Oct. 9 and 29, and later SEC Swimmer of the Week on Nov. 5 and 26. At the Tennessee Invite on Nov. 22, Hartman set a Georgia school record in the 100 breast (58.27), breaking a 21-year old school record and reaching an NCAA A-cut.

Hartman kept her momentum rolling at the SEC Championships, where she took individual titles in the 100 (58.21) and 200 breast (2:06.20). She also placed 2nd in the 200 IM (1:53.05).
