Born Sept. 28, 1993 Matt Zimmerman is a swimmer at the University of Michigan. Originally from Maumee, Ohio Zimmerman is currently in his junior year at Michigan, where he’s studying Kinesiology. A freestyle specialist, Zimmerman made the Academic All-Big Ten team in 2014. He graduated from St. Francis de Sales High School and he earned multiple accolades – Zimmerman acted as team captain his senior year, and was an All-State first team selection. Aside from swimming Zimmerman was also an excellent water polo player in high school, a team he also was voted team captain and named a two-time MVP. Zimmerman has five siblings back home, and had competed club swimming for GTAC for four years – he was a Senior National and Junior National qualifier. In the recruiting class of 2012 Zimmerman was the no. 14 recruit out of the state of Ohio, according to collegeswimming.com.
As a freshman Zimmerman focused on the Purdue Invitational, where he competed in five events. He competed in the dual meet season, and made his collegiate debut against Wisconsin.
Zimmerman earned the Academic All-Big Ten honor is sophomore season. He competed at the Univ. of Michigan Open and the competed in the meet vs. Iowa.
Zimmerman is currently in his junior year as a Michigan Wolverine. He didn’t compete at the Big Ten Championships, but he did compete in the dual meets. Zimmerman also swam three events at the AT&T Winter Nationals.
Zimmerman qualified for the 2011 and 2012 Junior National Championships and the 2012 Senior National Championships. As a high school swimmer he was on the varsity squad all four years, four-time District champion as a senior, and was a two-time runner-up at the Ohio State Championships both his junior and senior season.
