Joe Sputio

Joe began swimming at a young age in his hometown of Hubbard, Ohio. Throughout his highschool career Joe was a two time OHSAA Div. 2 State championship meet qualifier in the 100 yard butterfly. He also hold his high school’s record in that event along with the 200 free and 200 I.M. Joe was a Division two Northeast district champion and state finalist his senior year. He committed to Westminster in 2013.

Joe saw great success his freshman year at Westminster. Joe posted two best times in the 200 fly and 500 free at the Titans’ mid-season meet. At the Presidents athletic Conference championship meet joe earned eighth place in both butterfly events as well as 16th place in the 500 free. Despite having three finals performances Joe fell just shy of besting his mid-season times. Joe also competed on the teams championship 400 medley relay.

Joe continued to be a valuable player for Titans’ in his second season at Westminster. Although he fell short of any personal bests this season he still had a relatively large scoring impact at the PAC championship meet where he finished seventh in the 200 fly and tenth in the 100 fly. These efforts helped the Titans capture their sixth PAC championship in 12 years.

Joe is a music education major at Westminster. He plans to eventually teach music and coach swimming. Joe is an active member of Westminster’s choral program and often sings the national anthem at swim meets.
