Christian Bouchillon, who currently swims club with Birmingham Family YMCA in Michigan, has decided to continue his swimming career at Southern Methodist University.

Bouchillon is in the graduating high school class of 2022 at the University of Detroit Jesuit — a Catholic high school in Detroit, Michigan. Bouchillon has swum varsity all years of high school thus far. Bouchillon finished fourth at finals in the 100-yard backstroke with a personal best of a 50.65 at the 2021 Michigan High School Athletic Association D2 Championships.
Bouchillon picked up his first-ever Futures cut in the 200-yard backstroke in April at the YMCA Swimming Festival. Bouchillon also posted lifetime bests in the 50-yard freestyle (22.24), 100-yard freestyle (49.13), and 200-yard freestyle (1:45.51) at the same meet.

Southern Methodist University won the 2021 American Athletic Conference Championships last February, the first victory for the Mustangs since 2013. Looking at Bouchillon’s personal bests, he has the ability to make an impact at the conference level. Both Bouchillon’s 200 backstroke and 100 backstroke would have earned him a spot in the B-final.
Bouchillon, a strong backstroker, would be amongst the top 10 fastest 200 backstrokers SMU has to offer. Bouchillon would also be the eighth best 100 backstroker, with the top six all having broken a 50.
Bouchillon will arrive on campus next fall as a member of the class of 2026.
