Alamo Area Aquatics Association To Restructure, Larger Locations To Separate

The Alamo Area Aquatics Association (AAAA) is in the process of restructuring, a source close to the team confirmed to SwimSwam.

Alamo Area is a multi-site swim club with seven locations throughout the San Antonio area. While recent years have seen a trend of large, multi-site teams combining resources, AAAA is moving in the opposite direction.

According to the source, some of the larger locations affiliated with public school districts will be separating from the association to create their own entities.

”The reason for this restructuring is to ensure that each location is able to operate at its highest potential to better support aquatic sports in the San Antonio area,” the source said.

“A group of the smaller locations plans to maintain the AAAA brand going forward.”

The Northside ISD (Independent School District) and Southwest ISD locations confirmed to SwimSwam that the current short course season will be their last with AAAA, and they will begin the 2026 long course campaign under new names.

As of March 9th, 2026, Northside ISD will become the Northside Independent Swim Team (NIST), while the Southwest ISD will become the Southwest Aquatic Warriors (SAW).

The North East ISD and Judson ISDs are also expected to be breaking off from the AAAA, though we’ve yet to receive confirmation. North East is one of the AAAA’s largest locations, along with Northside.

The remaining locations include the Jewish Community Center (JCC), San Antonio Nadadores, and the Comal site. The Nadadores confirmed that they will remain a part of the AAAA.

The AAAA break-up comes at a time when we’ve seen several large clubs combine resources. That includes California-based teams Beach Cities Swimming and Alpha Aquatics announcing a merger last summer, citing “inefficiencies and missed opportunities” for local clubs in the South Bay Area in Los Angeles.

We also saw the Pleasanton Seahawks and Crow Canyon Sharks merge in January 2025, while looking back a few years, Club Kick Start joined forces with the North Carolina Aquatic Club in 2022, illustrating the broader pattern of smaller programs folding into bigger ones to expand membership reach and offerings.

This is clearly because AAAA Northside ISD was caught promoting and enforcing membership to USMS which allowed biological men to swim, compete and use the women’s locker rooms at the NISD pool for USMS Nationals in 2025. After major backlash from the master swimmers being unhappy about them allowing this to happen, NISD doubled down and said master swimmers could not participate in the NISD AAAA program without accepting the USMS trans policy allowing men to compete as women. When athletes spoke up to the school board, reminding them that they receive state and federal funding, and forcing people to join a private 3rd party organization that goes against their religious believes was unconstitutional and a blatant violation of the… Read more »

Would love to see an article discussing how the association may have been groundbreaking when first structured and then adopted illegal practices over time, whether intentional or not. It is the fall of an empire and the full story deserves to be told. Many really want to read THAT story, not this whitewashed version.
