It was the continuation of one dynasty and possibly the start of another at the 2026 New Mexico Activities Association Swimming and Diving Championships.

The Albuquerque Academy girls captured their 10th straight state championship, while the boys won their second consecutive crown.

The most significant swim came from Cottonwood Classical’s

​​“I was fully locked in,” Rodriguez said to the Albuquerque Journal. “Got it done.”

Girls’ Recap

Albuquerque Academy swept all three relays and got a victory from 8th-grader Riley Rosandich, who won the 100 free in a time of 53.95. It was just three one-hundreths off her personal best.

Rosandich also played a role in two of Albuquerque Academy’s winning relay teams.

In the 200 medley relay, Rosandich had a 24.54 free split to help Albuquerque Academy win in 1:49.04. Other team members were Anoushka Body (27.85), Sophie Siebenthal (30.84) and Jordan Berg (25.81).

Rosandich also anchored Albuquerque Academy’s winning team in the 400 free relay, splitting 54.57 to help Academy win in 3:40.64. Other team members were Moskowitz (54.33), Becker (55.93) and Lucia Roth (55.81).

Albuquerque Academy’s team of Mody (25.39), Sephira Becker (25.17), Moskowitz (24.98) and Berg (24.53) won the 200 free relay in a time of 1:40.07.

The individual standouts were Matilda Nethery of Albuquerque High School and MacKayla Smith of Clovis.

Nethery improved on a 2nd-place finish from last year in the 200 free, winning it this time in 1:57.11. She later repeated as champion in the 500 free with a time of 5:15.66.

Smith first won the 200 IM in a personal best time of 2:10.64, improving on a 5th-place finish in 2025. She then won the 100 back in a personal best time of 57.09.

Other individual winners were:

  • Dara Ayala of Centennial won the 50 free in 24.68.
  • Kinley Gonzales of Hobbs claimed the 1-meter diving event with 399.20 points.
  • Saaya Bhakta of Cottonwood Classical, the winner in the 100 back and 200 IM last year, won the 100 fly this year in a time of 58.20.
  • Siebenthal was the champion in the 100 breast, clocking a time of 1:07.26.

Boys’ Recap

In addition to his record-breaking swim in the 100 fly, Rodriguez was one of two multi-event winners, repeating as champion in the 100 back with a time of 49.26.

The other to win two events was Albuquerque Academy’s Shep Camp, who  repeated as champion in both the 200 IM (1:56.14) and the 100 breast (57.95).

Camp was also a member of two winning relay teams for Albuquerque Academy. He first split a 26.48 on the breast leg to help the school’s 200 medley relay team win in 1:34.73. Other team members were William Leng (24.81), Soren Carlson (21.57) and Julian Hu (21.87).

In the 400 free relay, the team of  Leng (48.70), Oliver Mattox (48.36), Camp (48.38) and Carlson (44.49) won in a time of 3:09.93.

Carlson, who is committed to Stanford, also gave Albuquerque Academy another individual win, repeating as champion in the 100 free with a time of 45.05. He set his personal best of 44.45 at Winter Juniors – West in December.

Other event winners were:

  • Mark Cecco of Eldorado, who has committed to Alabama, repeated as champion in the 200 free with a time of 1:41.21.
  • Ian Wald of Santa Fe was 2nd last year to Carlson in the 50 free, but won that event this year in a time of 20.65, just five-one-hundreths ahead of Carlson.
  • Alfredo Hernandez of Hobbs won the 1-meter diving event with 532.90 points.
  • Josiah Johnson of Cottonwood Classical improved on a 2nd-place finish last year in the 500 free, winning the event this time in 4:37.29.
  • The 200 free relay was won by Volcano Vista’s team of Ivan Buetler (21.14), Cash Colson (23.03), Wesley Bowman (22.62), and Luke Sanchez (21.54) in 1:32.63.
