Spectrum Aquatics Weekly Wonders of Age Group Swimming: 1/31/2026

Robert Legg, 9, Pleasanton Seahawks (PC): Legg set best times in three straight meets throughout January, kicking things off at the “Pleasanton Seahawks SCY C B B” meet on the 10th and 11th. Legg set best times in the 200 free (2:04.00), 50 breast (36.38), 50 fly (28.62) and 100 fly (1:03.03), with all but the 50 breast ranking him 1st this season among nine-year-old boys. At an intraquad meet a few days later, he set bests in the 50 back (30.11), 100 breast (1:22.85) and 100 IM (1:05.21), ranking 1st in the country among nine-year-olds in the 50 back and tied for 1st in the 100 IM. At the New Year, New Swims meet last weekend, he set his eighth PB of the month in the 100 back, clocking 1:05.22 to give him another event where he ranks #1 this season.

Finola Whelehan, 14, TAC Titans (NC): Whelehan dropped five seconds from her best time in the 200 fly at the TAC Polar Plunge meet two weeks ago in Cary, clocking 1:57.99 to shatter her old PB of 2:03.00. The swim rocketed her up to 28th all-time in the girls’ 13-14 age group and 1st this season. She also posted victories in the 200 free (1:49.50), 100 back (55.40), 100 fly (54.96), 200 IM (2:05.18) and 400 IM (4:23.94) at the meet.

Ayden Tan, 13, San Ramon Valley Aquatics (PC): Tan blasted a new lifetime best of 49.40 in the 100 back at the Cal Invitational two weeks ago in Berkeley, which, according to the USA Swimming database, stands as the fastest ever recorded by a 13-year-old. It slots him into 23rd all-time in the boys’ 13-14 age group and 2nd this season. His previous best stood at 49.88, set in December. Last weekend, he was back in action at the Orinda Aquatics SCY Open, setting new bests in the 200 free (1:44.31), 200 breast (2:05.24) and 200 fly (1:57.07), ranking him 1st in the country among 13-year-old boys this season in the 200 breast, 2nd in the 200 free and 3rd in the 200 fly.

Sadie Allen, 12, Crawfish Aquatics (LA): Allen recorded five lifetime bests at the 19th Annual Ralph Crocker Classic in Auburn, highlighted by her swims in the sprint fly events. In the 50 fly, she clocked 25.81 in the final to rank 58th all-time in the girls’ 11-12 age group and 1st this season, having broken 26 for the first time in the prelims in 25.97. The Crawfish Aquatics product came into the meet with a PB of 26.80, set last February. In the 100 fly, Allen knocked nearly a full second off her two-month-old best time of 57.66 in 56.69, ranking her 48th all-time in the 11-12 age group and 2nd this season. She also set bests in the 100 free (53.43), 50 breast (32.21) and 200 fly (2:13.25).

CC He, 13, Irvine Novaquatics (CA): He has had a strong month, setting five short course best times at the Pacific Coast All Star Meet before setting six PBs at the RMDA Road To Sofi Invite – three in SCY and three in LCM. In long course, He set bests in the 400 free (4:15.58), 800 free (8:44.58) and 400 IM (4:49.79), ranking 1st this season among 13-year-olds in the 800 free and 400 IM and 2nd in the 400 free. In yards, his top swims came in the 500 free (4:43.04), 200 IM (1:59.20) and 400 IM (4:12.29), ranking 4th, 10th and 6th this season among 13-year-old boys, respectively.
