American Star Shaine Casas No-Shows 200 IM Prelims on Wednesday at Austin Pro Swim Series

2026 PRO SWIM SERIES – AUSTIN

American Olympian Shaine Casas was a no-show for his only race on Wednesday morning to open the Pro Swim Series in Austin, Texas, the 200 IM – though he didn’t miss much.

The 26-year-old, who trains in the same pool where the meet is being held, is the 4th-fastest performer in the history of the event with a 1:54.30 to take silver at the 2025 World Championships.

He bowed out of a field where the fastest swimmer in heats was his training partner Carson Foster (2:01.38), and where the World Record holder Leon Marchand of France, another Texas post-grad trainee, swam 2:05.95 to qualify 5th. The last time Marchand swam a 200 IM that slow was at a small local regional meet in France in March 2020, just before COVID-19 shut down the world, when he clocked 2:07.81 in prelims – the fastest time of the day – before scratching the final. He was 17 then.

While Casas has provided no public explanation for his absence, skipping the 200 IM does not necessarily mean that his meet is over. At his last meet, the U.S. Open in December, he swam the 50 back, 100 fly, and 200 free.

Casas has four remaining entries at the meet: the 100 fly (#3 seed), 200 free (#9 seed), 50 back (#1 seed), and 100 free (#6 seed). that 50 back where he’s the top seed is one of the targeted double money races at this meet, with the winner clearing $3,000 for their effort. The 200 IM falls into that category as well.
