Zionsville Swim Club’s Ava Metzger has committed to Indiana University, joining the Hoosier women for the fall of 2026.

Metzger recently competed in her home state of Indiana at the Speedo Winter Junior Championships (SCY) in Indianapolis, where she competed in four events, earning finals swims in two of them. She finished 16th in both the 200 free (1:49.34) and 500 free (4:51.99), but she swam lifetime bests in each of them in the prelims, clocking 1:48.28 in the 200 free and 4:50.28 in the 500 free. She also swam her fastest ever in the 200 butterfly in 2:05.10 (60th), and finished 46th in the 100 free (50.90).
Metzger hails from Zionsville, Ind., and represents Zionsville Community High School. As a junior at the IHSAA Girls State Championship, Metzger finished 5th in both the 200 free (1:49.94) and 500 free (4:56.45). She also anchored Zionsville’s 5th-place 200 free relay in 23.86 and led off the 7th-place 400 free relay in 52.51.
In March, Metzger competed at the Indiana Swimming Senior Championships (SCY), where she notched four of the fastest swims of her career. Metzger set personal best times in the 100 free (50.75), 200 backstroke (2:02.73), and 200 IM (2:06.02).
Metzger was just recently named to her 2nd USA Swimming Scholastic All-American team, and was also honored as a 2024-2025 NISCA All-American in the 200 free and 500 Free. Metzger was also nominated for the athlete of the year for girls’ swimming and diving at the Indiana High School Sports Awards this past April.

Metzger will join an Indiana women’s team that is coming off a runner-up finish at the 2025 Big Ten Swimming and Diving Championships last season.
Based on Metzger’s best times, she would have finished 30th in the 200 free, 35th in the 500 free, and 44th in the 100 free at those championships.
Metzger sits just outside of scoring position in both the 200 free and 500 free, two events that Indiana performed well in at Big Tens last season. No other team scored more points than Indiana in the 500 free with 85, 29.5 points more than the next most (Michigan with 56.5). The Hoosiers still earned 56 points in the 200 free, but have since lost their major freestyle ace Anna Peplowski, who won the 500 free and finished 3rd in the 200 free.
Indiana will be able to develop Metzger alongside current freshman Liberty Clark, who already has the best 200 free time on the Hoosier team this season by over four seconds in 1:41.27.
Metzger has swum all of her major best times in the last calendar year, with her signature races’ best times being freshly set this month (200 free and 500 free). She has a fresh baseline of times before her collegiate debut, and still has her senior state championships yet to swim this season.
Metzger joins a massive recruiting class with Lucero Mejia Arce, Lylah Theriac, Anne Dickinson, Elizabeth Eichbrecht, Paige Downey, Eva Rottink, Emma Belk, Zoe Defabrique, and Kayla Han in the Hoosiers class of 2030.
