Steenbergen’s Feats Keep The Netherlands Atop Medal Table On Penultimate Night Of SC Euros

2025 EUROPEAN SHORT COURSE CHAMPIONSHIPS

The penultimate night of action at the 2025 European Short Course Championships saw 25-year-old Marrit Steenbergen bust out another two European records.

The Dutch Olympian produced new benchmarks in the women’s 200m IM and 100m free to grab gold in each, helping to keep her nation of the Netherlands atop the medal table.

The Netherlands has amassed 11 total medals, including 6 gold, 4 silver and 1 bronze to hold a minor lead over Italy which is right in the mix with 4 golds, 4 silver and 2 bronze.

Great Britain is hanging on the 3rd place overall, but Germany and Spain are in the hunt with 3 golds apiece at this point in the competition.

At the 2023 edition of the European Short Course Championships, the nation of Great Britain led the medal table with Italy and France also among the top 3. This time around, France sits in 6th place, so it’s unlikely they’ll rocket up to where they were in Otopeni two years ago.
