Romanian Short Course Record Holder Brigitta Vass Verbals to USC for 2026-27

Romanian breaststroke talent Brigitta Vass has verbally committed to the University of Southern California, joining their women’s program for the fall of 2026. She hold both the 100 and 200 breaststroke short course Romanian records.

Vass represented Romania at the 2024 World Aquatics Swimming Championships in Budapest (SCM), where she turned in a 28th-place finish in the 200 breast (2:26.05), and finished 41st in the 100 breast, touching in 1:07.62.

One of her best performances of her career came at the 2024 Romanian National Championships (SCM). There, she won four individual titles; touching 31.91 in the 50 breast, 1:07.47 in the 100 breast, 2:25.93 in the 200 breast, and 2:13.94 in the 200 IM. Both her 50 and 100 breaststroke swims marked her fastest-ever performances. Her 100 breast also set a new Romanian record in the event.

A year earlier, Vass competed at the European Swimming Championships (SCM). There she set a new Romanian Record in the 200 breast, touching 13th overall in 2:22.88. She also set a new personal best mark in the 200 IM, finishing 14th in 2:19.56.

Best Times Converted to SCY:

USC finished 5th at the 2025 Women’s Big Ten Swimming and Diving Championships. Based on Vass’ converted times, she would have been projected to qualify for the championship final in the 100 breast and 200 breast, and the ‘B’ final in the 400 IM.

USC’s addition of Vass may catapult them into a top four contender in the Big Ten, based on the amount of points that Vass could have scored a season ago; that total would have jumped the Trojans over Wisconsin for 4th with last season’s rosters.

Vass still has nearly a full year before she joins the program officially, but with just her current long course times, she already projects to be a mainstay at the top of the Big Ten for years to come.

Vass joins J B Kodera, Maxine Clark, Rylee Hutchinson, Ella Gaca Thiele, and Hailey Weiler in the Trojans’ 2026 recruiting class.
