The British Universities & Colleges (BUCS) Awards Ceremony took place at the University of the West of England on July 11th, with student-athletes from institutions around the nation being recognized for their achievements.

125 nominations were submitted for the various individual and team awards, which were shortlisted to include 3 official nominees in each category, such as ‘BUCS Sportsman of the Year’, ‘BUCS Sportswoman of the Year’ and ‘BUCS Team of the Year.’

Nominated in the foremost aforementioned category was University of Stirling’s Duncan Scott, the two-time Olympic medalist who become Scotland’s most decorated athlete ever at a Commonwealth Games last year.

Scott raced his way to double gold at the BUCS Long Course Championships this past February, winning the individual 200m fly event while also helping Stirling take the men’s 4x100m freestyle crown.

At the British Championships in April, Scott wowed the world with a huge lifetime best of 1:56.65 in the 200m IM, his first time ever under 1:57 in the event.

He also fired off a new British National Record in the men’s 100m free in 47.87 for gold and also took the 200m free title in the 2nd fastest time of his career. Scott also raced his way to 200 fly silver and 100m fly silver at the meet.

Scott will be competing at the World Championships in Gwangju, Korea, entered in the aforementioned 100m free, 200m IM and 200m free, as well as relays.

University of Nottingham’s Hayley Mills, an indoor athletics star, was named BUCS Sportswoman of the Year.

He’s the Scottish version of Michael Phelps. Swims the free, fly and IM very well.

He was in the final of both the 100 and 200 free at the 2017 Worlds. I think this time he’ll get an individual medal.
