MEET NOTES: Florida Gators to compete at the Georgia Tech Invitational

The University of Florida No. 7 men’s and No. 16 women’s swimming & diving teams are set to travel to Atlanta, Ga. to compete in the Georgia Tech Invitational from Nov. 20-22. This is first time since the 2011-12 season that the Gators have competed in this event. In that Invite, Florida’s women won the meet, while the UF men finished runner-up.

The Gator men and women last competed two weeks ago in a dual meet against Minnesota, where the men defeated No. 19 Minnesota, 167-125, while, UF’s women’s squad fell to the No. 10-ranked Gophers, 183-117 in Gainesville. Throughout the dual meet, UF registered 15 NCAA ‘B” standard times.

Head Coach Gregg Troy:

“I feel real good where both groups are at heading into this championships style meet at Georgia Tech. This meet has several good team’s competing in it, and it will give us a good chance to evaluate the fall and see where we need to improve upon in the spring when it really matters.”

AMONG THE NATION’S BEST

This season, Florida’s men have had six individuals record a combined 13 NCAA top-10 times across nine events. For the women, UF has had four individuals record a combined 8 NCAA top-10 times across eight events.

TOP RELAY’S

The Gators own the country’s top time in the men’s 800-yard freestyle relay (Dressel, Werner, Kaisrlik, D’Arrigo; 6:35.42) and ranks second in the women’s 200-yard free relay (Russell, Hinds, McKnight, Linn; 1:30.69).

RANKED

The Florida men’s swimming and diving team is No. 7 and the women sit at No. 11 in the College Swimming Coaches Association of America rankings, CSCAA officials announced on Nov. 13 and Nov. 6, respectively.

NEXT UP

Florida will compete in its final meet of the calendar year is from Dec. 4-6 in Greensboro, N.C. as UF will be at the U.S. Nationals.
