The city of Las Vegas has completed construction of a brand-new outdoor 50-meter competition pool. The pool is located adjacent to the existing 50-meter pool, which is part of the Pavilion Regional Aquatic Center.
This new pool features 20 25-yard short-course lanes, eight 50-meter long-course lanes, a movable bulkhead, and is a seven-foot-all-deep pool, making it capable of hosting 25-yard, 25-meter, or 50-meter competitions.
In addition to its size, the pool is equipped with an in-deck Colorado Gen 7 Timing System, a 21-foot-wide by 10-foot-tall 10-mm full-color video display board, and spectator seating that can accommodate up to 900 people. The pool can also add temporary bleachers in addition to its set 900-seat capacity seating area for spectators.
With the current 50-meter pool steps away from the new outdoor water, it makes it an ideal separate pool for potential warm-up or warm-down space.
Sandpipers of Nevada Head Coach Ron Aitken told Swimswam that the new facility has not yet committed to any meets, but has already put out bids for both 2027 and 2028 with USA Swimming.
Aitken told Swimswam that the new pool is capable of hosting Zones, Sectional, Futures, and Pro Swim Series meets, as well as local and LSC meets.
He also posted his excitement for the new water on Instagram, sharing that all teams in the area wanted new water, and that the “Regional Aquatic Center changes that for all of us.”
How does this seem like a family event? Because 33 years of working with the city, the county, the university, our schools, and other teams in Las Vegas all wanting the same thing: more water. This Regional Aquatic Center changes that for all of us.
I’m grateful to Victoria Seaman for seeing this vision through, to our city council members, and to our current and past mayors of Las Vegas.
A special thank you to Dave Lund, Tammy Hawkins, and Kim Rivera for over 20 years of consistent help and support.
This team has a 58-year history, and this pool is for every alumnus who built that foundation before me. Here’s to being around to see our 100th!
Having my daughter (City of Las Vegas) and my son (LVMPD) there to see it both serving this community in their own way meant more than I can say.
Grateful doesn’t even cover it. 💙💛
