SILVER – Sofia Diakova (NA), 4:06.86
BRONZE – Linda Roth (GER), 4:08.20
Kseniia Misharina broke the European Junior Championships record in the 400 free tonight, clocking a new best of 4:05.54 to take the win by over a second.
Misharina clocked a new best, lowering the 4:06.67 she swam two years ago by over a second. Having been third seed coming into the meet, she clocked 4:13.72 this morning to claim lane four for the final before unleashing a monster swim tonight.
The 17-year-old was second at the first turn behind Germany’s Linda Roth, but overtook her on the next length and never relinquished her lead. She was just over a second ahead of Roth at halfway, 2:01.31 to 2:02.34, and then delivered a field-best back half of 2:04.23 as she ended up winning by a second.
Misharina lowered Hungarian Ajna Kesely‘s eight-year-old record of 4:05.89 by nearly half a second, as she won her third individual title of the week. She had already won both the 800 free, clocking 8:25.75, and the 1500 free title in 16:05.46, two seconds off the 16:03.42 she posted earlier this year. She has also swum on two medal-winning relays, taking silver in the 4×200 free relay, leading off in 1:59.49, and bronze on the 4×100 free relay, anchoring in 54.80.
Misharina now sits as the #3 Russian swimmer in history, behind only Anna Egorova‘s 4:04.10 from the 2021 Russian Championships and Sofia Diakova‘s 4:05.16 from the 2024 Russian National Swimming Cup.
