Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.
Alicia Taylor has verbally committed to swim and study at Drexel University as a member of the Class of 2030. She made the announcement on Instagram, writing:
I am incredibly excited to announce my verbal commitment to continue my academic and athletic career at Drexel University! I want to thank my family, friends and all the people who have supported me throughout my athletic journey so far. Special shoutout to my parents and sister, Sabrina, for supporting me with my decision. I’m so grateful to all the Drexel coaching staff for this opportunity! GO DRAGONS! 🐉 💙💛
Top SCY Times:
- 50 Freestyle: 23.41
- 100 Freestyle: 51.22
Taylor hails from Glenside, Pennsylvania, where she attends Upper Dublin High School and trains year-round with Upper Dublin Aquatic Club. The pure sprint freestyle specialist is a great pick up for the Dragons, having dropped from 23.90 to 23.41 in the 50 free and 52.55 to 51.22 in the 100 free during her junior year.
She is a three-time Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association (PIAA) 3A State meet qualifier. As a freshman, she took 17th in the 50 free, as a sophomore she finished 15th in the 100 free and matched her placement in the 50, and last year she upgraded to fifth in the 50 free and ninth in the 100 free. Her 100 free best time stems from the 2025 state meet, while her 50 free best was set at a smaller-level high school meet about a month prior.
Taylor is still looking to develop a strong third event, with the 200 free (1:58.65) and 100 butterfly (1:06.72) looking like her two most likely pathways. Her 200 free time is objectively better, but given her sprinting abilities, the 100 fly might have more upside down the line with some additional emphasis.
Drexel is led by head coach Nathan Lavery, who enters his sixth season at the helm of the program. Last season, the Dragons finished six out of nine teams at the Coastal Athletic Association (CAA) Conference Championships. Based on Taylor’s current best times, she would have made the ‘B’ final of the 50 free and ‘C’ final of the 100 free at that meet.
On the team’s 2024–25 depth chart, Taylor would have ranked second in the 50 free and fifth in the 100 free. She will overlap one season with Mari Alencar, who led the team with times of 22.92 and 49.84. Alencar is the only swimmer faster than Taylor who will return next season, giving Taylor a strong training partner as she adjusts to college swimming.
Taylor joins a four-strong recruiting class for the Dragons, which includes breaststroker Sophia Sileo-Magliari, distance freestyler/IMer Emma Watts, and butterfly/backstroker Kailey dela Cruz.
