The Pitt Panthers will make their ACC swimming debut in early November, after releasing their 2013-2014 schedule today.
On November 9th, Pitt will host Virginia Tech and Notre Dame at the Trees Pool, marking their very first meets against ACC opponents after making the jump from the Big East this coming summer. They will probably come into that meet as underdogs against both teams.
Notre Dame has not released their schedule yet, but as the other new members of ACC swimming for the 2013-2014 season, this could be their first in-conference event as well.
The team will then host the Pitt Invitational (with teams not yet announced), and then send a roster of 30 athletes to the USA Swimming Winter Nationals, which are being held in Knoxville, Tennessee this year. Teams for the Pitt Invitational have not yet been announced.
After a winter-break training trip, their next meet will be the annual rivalry series against West Virginia, in Morgantown, and then host a quad meet with Villanova, Denison, and another team that hasn’t been picked yet.
Their regular season will conclude with a showdown against the 6-time defending ACC Champions from Virginia before plunging into the ACC Championships that are back in Greensboro, North Carolina.
Both teams had good years last year, finishing 3rd each at the Big East Championships. The two teams combined for 16 school records at that meet. They earned a pair of NCAA Championship qualifiers: sophomore Kourosh Ahani who qualified to swim the 100 fly, and senior Kelsey Herbst, who swam the 500 and 1650 freestyles.
