The Towson University women’s swimming and diving team opened the 2013-14 season with a resounding victory at the Potomac Relays Friday at American University, setting six meet records en route to the win.

The CJDI is designed to help support – and encourage – diversity in swimming by bringing together kids of all backgrounds and giving them the chance to compete in an elite event, all while raising money to support this important cause. Aoyama set season opener records in the 50-freestyle (23.36) and the 100-butterfly (54.95) on Saturday. Stephanie North previously held the season opener record in the 50 free, and Amber Boucher held the record in the 100 fly. Boucher’s record in the season opener was 56.33 until Saturday.

Four-time Olympic medalist Cullen Jones, the Queen City Dolphins, and Speedo will host more than 500 swimmers from around the United States at the first-ever Cullen Jones Diversity Invitational (CJDI), a three-day, USA Swimming-sanctioned swim meet, held Oct. 11-13 at the Mecklenburg County Aquatics Center in Charlotte, N.C.
