What is a Yooper? From Urban Dictionary:  A Yooper is a common term for residents of the Upper Penisula of Michigan. It is derived from the initials U.P. which is pronounced you-pee. U.P. stands for Upper Peninsula, as opposed to the lower peninsula of Michigan. It is not a derogortory term. It is used mainly by residents of lower Michigan and Wisconsin.

“Say yah to da U.P. eh!”

Matthew Williams, Head Swim Coach of YMCA of Marquette County, challenged the Northern Michigan University Wildcat Swim team to take in a fun and creative approach to their workout routine while their pool is under going repairs. Lead by head coach Heidi Voigt, they attempt to tackle this creative and challenging course under 2 minutes. At first it didn’t seem like much….until they started to race each other. We chime in when the competition gets good.

It makes me tremendously glad to hear a coach say that he doesn’t use butterfly as a punishment. So many little swimmers I know say they can’t do butterfly, or are scared to do butterfly because that’s what they see it as – punishment.

I also 100% love these drills and am going to try at least a few myself, just to play around. 🙂
