Kensy Jones, 9, Palo Alto Stanford Aquatics (PC): Competing at the Adam Szmidt Memorial Age Group Championships (LCM) two weekends ago in Morgan Hill, Calif., Jones set six new best times and won five events in the girls’ 10 & under age group despite still being nine. The Palo Alto Stanford Aquatics product most notably posted times of 35.37 in the 50 back and 1:16.84 in the 100 back, both ranking her #1 this season among nine-and-under swimmers. She also moved to 3rd this season among nine-and-under girls in the 100 fly (1:15.94) and 4th in the 50 free (30.85), 100 free (1:09.38) and 200 free (2:32.09).
Frederic Burks, 14, Excel Aquatics (SE): Burks delivered an exceptional swim in the 200 breaststroke at the Southeastern Championships (LCM) in Huntsville, Ala., knocking nearly a second and a half off his best time to clock 2:19.58 and win the title by more than seven seconds. Improving on his previous PB of 2:21.02, Burks moves into 8th all-time in the boys’ 13-14 age group with the performance, and also ranks #1 this season by more than two seconds. He also set a best time of 1:06.20 in the 100 breast, climbing into 54th all-time in the 13-14 age group and 1st this season. A member of Excel Aquatics, he also set best times in the 100 free (56.48), 50 breast (31.27), 100 fly (1:03.79), 200 IM (2:13.19) and 400 IM (4:48.45).
Harper Rauch, 13, Chicago Wolfpack Aquatic Club (IL): Rauch had an incredible performance during last week’s NCSA Summer Championships (LCM), setting personal best times in every freestyle event outside of the 50 while sweeping the distance titles. The 13-year-old Chicago Wolfpack Aquatic Club product most impressibly registered a time of 16:36.56 in the 1500 free, ranking her 22nd all-time in the girls’ 13-14 age group and sixth among 13-year-olds. That marked a massive drop of 35 seconds from her previous PB of 17:11.72, set at the Mel Zajac Jr. International meet last month. Rauch also clocked 8:48.84 in the 800 free, ranking her 13th all-time among 13-year-old girls and 70th in the 13-14 age group, while her time in the 400 free of 4:18.18 ranks 17th all-time among 13-year-olds and 79th in the 13-14 age group. She added best times of 1:00.77 in the 100 free and 2:05.77 in the 200 free on relay lead-offs.
Eli Clavier, 14, Crawfish Aquatics (LA): Clavier went six-for-six in individual events at the Louisiana Age Group LC State Championships in early July in Baton Rouge, setting eight best times. The 14-year-old’s headlining swims came in the breaststroke events, as he posted times of 1:06.24 in the 100 and 2:23.51 in the 200 to rank 56 and 61st all-time in the boys’ 13-14 age group, respectively. The Crawfish Aquatics product also put up a time of 30.35 in the 50 breast, ranking him 4th this season in the 13-14 age group. He added best times in the 400 free (4:13.33), 800 free (8:37.79) and 200 fly (2:14.79) en route to titles, and hit two more PBs in the 50 free (25.92) and 100 free (55.79) on relay lead-offs.
Jasper Ye, 12, Aquazot Swim Club (CA): Ye went six-for-six in individual titles at the Southern California Age Group Championships two weekends ago in Mission Viejo, hitting five new best times. A member of the Aquazot Swim Club, Ye put up times of 1:02.84 in the 100 back and 2:18.09 in the 200 IM, dropping just over a second in each to move into 17th all-time in the boys’ 11-12 age group in both races. He also cracked the top 50 all-time in the 50 back, clocking 29.82 to rank 46th all-time, and he added best times in the 50 free (26.60) and 200 free (2:07.79).
