Speedo Sectionals Qualifier Sarah Meza To Swim For SMU This Fall (2026)

Speedo Sectionals qualifier Sarah Meza has announced her verbal commitment to swim and study at Southern Methodist University beginning in the fall of 2027. She publicized the news on SwimCloud, writing:

I am so excited to announce that I will have the honor of continuing my athletic and academic career at Southern Methodist University! I am so grateful to God for guiding me through this journey and opening doors I could have never opened on my own. I want to give a huge thank you to all the coaches at Texas Ford Aquatics, especially Coach John McGough, for pushing me beyond what I even thought was possible. To my family, thank you for your love, support, and for never stopping believing in me. To my teammates, thank you for being there every step of the way. You all shaped me into the athlete and person I am today. A very special thank you to Coach Ozzie Quevedo for giving me this incredible opportunity. Turning dreams into reality, and ready to chase even bigger ones with this team! Pony Up!

Meza does her year-round swimming with Texas Ford Aquatics in Frisco, where she primarily specializes in butterfly and middle-distance freestyle.

Meza is coming off a 2025-26 short course season that saw her drop over 15 seconds in the 500 free, more than six seconds in the 200 fly, nearly three and a half seconds in the 200 free, a second and a half in the 100 fly, and a few tenths in the 100 free. She swam her current best times across a various club meets throughout the year she clocked 58.64 in the 100 fly and 55.01 in the 100 free at the NT LAC Fall Classic in November, 5:15.72 in the 500 free at the NT COPS 44th Annual Greater Southwest Classic in January, 2:12.99 in the 200 IM at the NT COR Senior Cup and 1:57.32 in the 200 free and 2:06.56 in the 200 fly at Speedo Sectionals – Justin in March.

A Division I program in the Atlantic Coast Conference, SMU’s women’s team finished 14th out of 15 teams at the 2026 conference championships in February. To earn a second swim at the ACC Championships this past season, it took times of 1:46.88/4:46.29 in the 100/200/500 free and 53.31/2:00.11 in the 100/200 fly, putting Meza’s current career bests outside the cutoffs.

Meza joins Emma Bibza, Anna Bonecka, Tessa Christiansen, Emma Hagberg, Kate Heffernan, Ella Houston, and Wren Smith in committing to the Mustangs’ class of 2030.
