Michaela Herwig, originally from Geneva, Illinois, has announced she will be transferring to Purdue University from the University of New Hampshire beginning in the fall.
“I’m so excited to announce my commitment to continue my academic and athletic career at Purdue University! Thank you to my family, friends, coaches, and teammates for helping me through this process! Can’t wait for the fall! Boiler up!!”
Herwig spent her freshman year at UNH after graduating from West Chicago Community High School in the spring of 2020. She had a successful year with the Wildcats, helping the women to win their ninth America East Conference title. Herwig was runner-up in the 100 fly (55.95), 3rd in the 200 back (2:01.27), and 4th in the 500 free (5:02.09). Herwig updated her lifetime bests in the 50 back, 200 back, and 100 fly at the 2021 AEC Championships.
Herwig swam for her high school team and Academy Bullets before heading to New Hampshire. Many of her best times date from the spring of 2020, just before the pandemic shut down the pools.
