2022 FINA WORLD AQUATICS CHAMPIONSHIPS

Day 1 Finals Recap

The time has come: SwimSwam Pick’em results for day 1 of the World Championships are here. Day 1 only featured 5 finals, the men’s 400 free, women’s 400 free, men’s 400 IM, women’s 4×100 free relay, and men’s 4×100 free relay. Luckily for our Pick’ems contestants, there were a few “gimmies” on day 1 of these Championships. For example, nearly every contestant had Katie Ledecky winning the women’s 400 free, and many had Summer McIntosh correctly picked at #2. Similarly, the Australian women were heavily picked to win Gold in the women’s 4×100 free relay.

Our day 1 winner is screen name “Grand Moff Tarkin”, which we must note is an awesome name (anyone have any thoughts on Kenobi?). Grand Moff Tarkin racked up 80 points on day 1, leading a very tight field. 41 contestants scored 70+ points on day 1, marking one of the closest contests we’ve had. Of course it’s still early, but with the field being thinner in many events at these Worlds, it’s possible this will end up being a very tight race until the very end.

Without further ado, here are the results from day 1 of the Pick’em contest:

Wow, 3rd!
Knew putting Winnington and Marchand first would pay off.
Pity McKweon is going to ruin the rest of the competition for me haha
