Fast-Rising Jeffrey Murray Makes Commitment to Georgia Tech

Jeffrey Murray, a USA Swimming Scholastic All-American from Marvin Ridge High School in Waxhaw, North Carolina, has verbally committed to swim for Georgia Institute of Technology in the fall.

“I’m excited to have been offered this opportunity to swim for Georgia Tech! Our class coming in this year looks to be good and I’m excited to see where the team goes. I am really looking forward to being a Yellow Jacket.”

Murray won the 200 free (1:42.23) and placed fourth in the 50 free (21.58) at the 2016 3A State NCHSAA Championships last February. He further contributed to Marvin Ridge’s second-place team finish leading off the 200 free relay and the 400 free relay, the latter of which won the state title. Murray swims year-round with SwimMAC Carolina, with whom he had an explosive junior year; he dropped time in numerous events, but particularly in sprint freestyle:

  2016 2015
50y free 20.88 21.55
100y free 45.98 47.19
200y free 1:39.61 1:42.21

In long course season, Murray concluded his summer season with a strong outing at Atlanta Futures, where he earned personal bests in the 50/100/200m free and 100m fly. He has been training hard this fall in anticipation of Winter Juniors.

Murray will join what is becoming a really solid Yellow Jackets class of 2021 with fellow commits Caio Pumputis, Corben Miles, Franco Reyes, Jonathan Vater, and Jonathan Yang.
