Winn Aung Re-Breaks His Own 100 Meter Freestyle National Age Group Record

10-year old Winn Aung of the Redding Swim Team in California has re-broken his own National Age Group Record in the 100 meter free (long course) in Roseville, California.

Aung, who has had a phenomenal year of swimming, swam a 1:00.67 to break his own 1:01.21 set in late May at 1:01.21. The old record of 1:02.39 was set by professional basketball player Kris Humphries in 1995 before rising to both NBA and reality television fame.

In other swims at the meet, Aung was a 28.33 in the 50 free, which was off of his best time of 27.7 that he swam at the same meet where he originally broke this record; he added to that a 1:08.90 in the 100 fly, a 2:35.33 in the 200 IM, and a 4:45.19 in the 400 free. That 100 fly mark is only about 1.7 seconds away from Carson Foster’s National Age Group Record in that event as well.

Aung doesn’t turn 11 until the very last days of July, so he should get a few more chances at breaking this record.

Simply remarkable. One can only hope the precedent of NAG record setters going pro does not become a trend.

If he is not really tall, we may be witnessing the birth of the next superstar.

Will he break the minute barrier before he turns 11? It would be huge!

He’d easily do it in SCM, but in LCM it’ll be incredible.
