USA Swimming Scholastic All-American Caleb Gould Commits to BYU

Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

Distance freestyler Caleb Gould has announced his decision to swim at Brigham Young University beginning in the 2020-2021 season. The news comes soon after his twin brother, Gavin Gould, committed to swim for the United States Air Force Academy this fall.

The Spring Valley High School senior shared, “I am very excited to announce my commitment to continue my academic and athletic career at BYU. I would like to thank my parents and coaches for helping me through this exciting process. BYU has a great coaching staff, charismatic team, and beautiful campus. I can’t wait to be apart of this wonderful team. GO COUGS!”

Gould swims year-round for the Sandpipers of Nevada under Coach Michael Kinross. In February, the Sandpipers hosted the TYR Desert Committee Championships. Gould competed in the 200, 500, and 1650 free, and the 100 back. In the 200 free, he went a 1:45.51 in prelims and earned himself the 4th place spot in finals. He moved up a spot in finals, dropping 0.43 seconds to go a 1:45.08. He was ranked second after the prelims heats of the 500 free (4:43.22) behind teammate Dylan Becker, but ultimately did not swim the race in finals. Gould placed 4th in the 1650 free with a time of 16:12.78. The Sandpipers swept the top 10 spots of the race. In his final race, he placed third in the 100 back. The Sandpipers men swept the meet with 3506 points, with second-place finishers Boulder City Henderson Heatwave earning 1380 points.

Gould has Winter Juniors cuts in the 1000 and 1650 free and Futures cuts in the 200 IM and 200 fly. He also earned a medal for a top finish in an open water race.

During the high school season, Gould competes for Spring Valley High School. In May, he competed at the Nevada 3A and 4A State Championship, where he swam the 100 fly and 200 IM. The meet was a timed finals format, meaning the swimmers only competed in the event once. He finished 7th in the 100 fly and 2nd in the 200 IM. He swam his 200 IM alongside his twin brother, Gavin, whom he out-touched by 0.19 seconds. Caleb has earned multiple USA Swimming Scholastic All-American honors throughout his high school swimming career.

Top SCY Times:

  • 1650 free – 15:39.08
  • 400 IM – 4:00.02
  • 1000 free – 9:24.31
  • 500 free – 4:34.57
  • 200 IM – 1:53.51
  • 200 fly – 1:52.60

In the fall, Gould will be joining the 2020 Mountain Pacific Sports Federation runners-up. Gould’s times will make him the team’s fastest 500, 1000, and 1650 freestyler as James Sorensen and Ethan Kramer will be graduating in the spring. He would have made it into the B-final in the 500 free and he would have placed 4th in the 1650 free. Gould will be joining back and free specialist Payton Plumb as a member of the class of 2024.
