ORONO, Maine — The University of Maine women’s swimming team opened its season by sweeping all of its events on day one of a two day meet at Wallace Pool on Saturday afternoon.
Maine’s team of Hannah Deighan, Liz Stoelzel, Alicia Littler, and Madison Edwards took first in thr 200-yard freestyle relay with a final time of 1:40.61.
Isabelle Irani, Charlie Hoover, Mia Poirier, and Nicolene Harkins took gold in the 400-yard medley relay with a time of 4:08.82.
Six different Black Bears captured individual victories:
Hoover – 50-yard butterfly – 27.49
Harkins – 200-yard freestyle – 1:58.17
Eva Welsh – 100-yard breaststroke – 1:07.42
Irani – 200-yard butterfly – 2:13.64
Deighan – 50-yard freestyle. 25.62
Edwards – 200-yard backstroke – 2:13.00
Maine’s mixed team of Hoover, Deighan, Joey Stauss, and Cam Watelet won the 400-yard mixed relay at 3:46.11.
The two team close the weekend competition on Sunday morning at 9:30 a.m.
ORONO, Maine — The University of Maine women’s swim team completed its event sweep of New Brunswick as the Black Bears took gold in all events they competed in, concluding the event on Sunday afternoon at Wallace Pool.
On Sunday, Maine’s 400-yard freestyle relay team of Mia Poirier, Nicki Harkins, Carmen Braden, and Alicia Littler took first at 3:43.33 while Madison Edwards, Eva Welsh, Isabelle Irani, and Hannah Deighan won the 200-yard medley relay at 1:52.19.
Individually, Maine captured top honors in seven events:
Welsh – 200-yard IM – 2:12.72
Charlotte Hoover – 100-yard backstroke – 59.97
Maddie Baldwin – 50-yard breaststroke – 32.45
Irani – 100-yard butterfly – 1:00.82
Campbell Willard – 50-yard backstroke – 28.97
Deighan – 100-yard freestyle – 55.28
Ainslie Boswell – 200-yard breaststroke – 2:31.59
Maine’s mixed 200-yard medley relay team of Edwards, Irani, Nate Teerlinck, and Max Ginsburg took the top spot in the event at 1:45.36.
Maine returns to action on Friday, Oct. 18 when it plays host to Maine Maritime Academy at 5 p.m.
ORONO, Maine — The University of Maine men’s swim team captured gold in eight of its nine races in its season opener against New Brunswick on Saturday afternoon at Wallace Pool.
Maine’s 200-yard freestyle relay team of Cam Watelet, Finn Devers, Kaden Kilger, and Max Ginsburg took first in the event with a time of 1:26.46.
Matthew Bendoraitis, Nate Teerlinck, Calvin Comeau, and Julian Lapietra won the 400-yard medley with a time of 3:31.20.
Maine had five swimmers take first place honors in individual events:
Watelet – 50-yard butterfly – 23.10 and 50-yard freestyle – 21.40
Noah Machristie – 200-yard freestyle – 1:47.12
Brendan Matos – 200-yard butterfly – 1:59.98
Bendoraitis – 200-yard backstroke – 1:55.82.

Noah Machristie led the Black Bears with a pair of individual victories as he took top honors in both the 200-yard IM (1:59.98) and the 200-yard breaststroke (2:13.03).
Other individual victories on day two were:
Nate Teerlinck – 50-yard breaststroke – 27.13
Calvin Comeau – 100-yard butterfly – 52.53
Cam Watelet – 50-yard backstroke – 23.56
Julian LaPietra – 100-yard freestyle – 47.60
Maine’s team of Finn Devers, Kaden Kilger, LaPietra, and Nick Scott took first in the 400-yard freestyle relay at 3:15.89 while Watelet, Teerlinck, Joey Stauss, and Max Ginsburg captured the top spot in the 200-yard medley relay at 1:34.91.
Maine’s mixed 200-yard medley relay team of Madison Edwards, Isabelle Irani, Teerlinck, and Ginsburg took the top spot in the event at 1:45.36.
Maine returns to action on Friday, Oct. 18 when it plays host to Maine Maritime Academy at 5 p.m.
