Fastest Times from Afternoon Heats of 1650

  2 Braden Keith | March 24th, 2012

Below are the top 5 times from the morning heats of the 1650. These swimmers are guaranteed to finish no lower than 8 + their rank below, depending on how the fastest heat goes.

Georgia’s Andrew Gemmell’s top-ranked time thus far should be in the top 5. Quintero and Hamilton’s marks would have put them in the top 8 last year – though the general feeling is that tonight’s final will be much faster than last year’s. Hinshaw’s swim means he’ll pick up big points for Cal. With Texas’ Jackson Wilcox as the 11th-fastest qualifier in the afternoon, and probably out of the points, that’s one more nail in the Longhorns’ coffin.

The top heat will dive in at 10 Eastern, 7 Pacific tonight.

Andrew Gemmell Georgia- 14:41.86
Cristian Quintero USC – 14:45.78
Craig Hamilton LSU – 14:45.94
Adam Hinshaw Cal- 14:49.24
Drew Cosgarea Stanford – 14:51.26

What do you see McBroom getting? He was faster than last year in the 500 by a tiny bit but Latourette and Grodzki were a lot faster. If they could relegate him to third that would be huge for Cal.
