Leon Marchand on Texas Training: “We learn how to win, learn how to lose”

  28 Coleman Hodges | October 14th, 2025

2025 SWIMMING WORLD CUP – CARMEL

Leon Marchand got in a lot of racing at the first World Cup stop in Carmel, although the 4x Olympic champ didn’t win a single race. When he raced in finals (200 Back, 200 IM, 200 Breast), he was beaten 2/3 times by his training partners at Texas. Marchand said he has gotten a lot out of his training partners this fall, stating, “I lose every day. We learn hot to win, learn how to lose”.

U.S. viewers can watch both prelims and finals on the USA Swimming Network and Peacock, Canadians can stream every session on CBC, and the source for the majority of European nations will be the Eurovision Sport platform.

Hello, I’m a swimming fan from South Korea who enjoys Swimsam. Sorry to leave a comment that isn’t related to this article, but I’d like to go see the 15th National Games of china swimming event in November, so if anyone knows how to pay online and get tickets, could I get some help?

Great.

Honest and he doesn’t seem to affect him terribly and discourage him.

It’s not so bad and his times are quite good (especially his 200 bk).

I think it’s a good lesson for him to lose in a international meet (it’s not the olympics or worlds either) and as he said he is used to it in his texas squad.

Impressive mindset and he trusts himself and his training.

Leon is the man, he’s going to summit himself as the best swimmer of all time within the next couple of years. Pro swimmers go to Texas to train with Leon, he makes everyone around him better obviously. I have never heard any. Anyone say anything bad about his personality or his character

It’s going to be pretty tough to win more medals and break more WRs than Phelps did. Not only was Phelps pretty good, but he also swam for USA which gave him many more relay medals than Leon will be able to get.

and Summer too.

Only individual golds count for these two of xcourse.

We could still compare the two across individual events.

I don’t think that #wr number should be very a variable we should weigh too strongly. Phelps did all that in an era where swimming was getting massively optimized, and swimsuit technology was improving drastically across the board. 2000-2009 was a crazy decade for that. He was at the right time and place to get 39 world records.

Marchand is much faster than Phelps ever was in the 400 IM and 200 IM but he may very well only lower the record once for both of those as opposed to Phelps lowering the 400 IM 7 times and the 200 IM 8 times.

That being said Phelps was one… Read more »

Hubi in back, Shaine in fast fly. Carson and Rex are apparently beasts in color sets.
Have to imagine it’s a war of attrition everyday in the Texas pro group.

My comment was my attempt at baiting Coleman into saying he’ll do another practice&pancakes at Texas soon

It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness, it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity, it was the season of light, it was the season of darkness, it was the spring of hope, it was the winter of despair.
