Oakland’s Morren & Smith Earn Horizon League Weekly Honors

Jeremiah Morren has been named Horizon League Male Swimmer of the Week and Joe Smith earned Horizon League Male Diver of the Week announced by the league office Tuesday.

Morren, a senior from Holland, Mich., won the 100-yard freestyle going 44.63 while also earning fifth in the 50 free going 20.17, both are NCAA ‘B’ qualifying times. He capped off his individual event slate with an eighth-place finish in the 200 free with a time of 1:41.84. Morren was also a member of three relay teams that finished third or better; those included the 200 free relay (1:20.11, third-place), 200 medley relay (1:28.21, runner-up) and 400 medley relay (3:14.37, runner-up).

Smith, a sophomore from Chelsea, Mich., finished third on both the 1- and 3-meter board scoring 286.05 and 312 respectively. This is his second weekly award of the season and fourth of his career.

The Golden Grizzlies will return to action next month with a quad meet at Cincinnati with Kenyon and Ohio State Jan. 13-14.
