18-Yr-Old Luca Hoek Rips 1:46.10 PB, Spanish Record In Men’s 200 Freestyle

Day four of the 2026 Spanish Open Trials saw 18-year-old Luca Hoek rip another lifetime best and Spanish national record to conclude his impressive campaign.

The teen took on the men’s 200m freestyle tonight, where the C.N. Terrassa swimmer stopped the clock at a massive result of 1:46.10.

Hoek split 23.99/26.89 (50.88)/27.32/27.90 en route to victory, hitting the sole sub-1:47 effort of the field.

Miguel Perez-Godoy settled for the silver just under a full second behind in 1:47.09, with Cesar Castro rounding out the podium in 1:47.12.

28-year-old Castro was the former national record holder in this 2free event, having established the 1:46.46 Spanish standard in 2024.

Entering this competition, Hoek’s 2free lifetime best rested at the 1:47.59 he logged in March of last year. That means his performance this evening hacked nearly one-and-a-half seconds off his fastest ever to make Spanish swimming history and qualify for the event for this summer’s European Championships.

Hoek’s time positions him just outside the list of the top 10 swiftest 18&U swimmers worldwide, and he inserts himself into slot #23 on the season’s world rankings.

This 200m free national record pairs with the head-turning mark of 47.72 he already notched en route to winning the men’s 100m freestyle here.

With Castro joining him at a silver medal-worthy 47.98, the pair became the first-ever Spaniards to delve under the 48-second threshold in the event.
