Hmmm 🤔 Been saying since Doha, if you’re going 22.5 or less to the feet, what chop is going to bother Pan. Hell, he was unaffected by it in the relay from behind

The golden nugget here was hiding towards the end of the podcast. Really increased my appreciation of this Olympics to recognize there were 10 different nations standing atop the medal podium in men’s events this past week; 6 different nations winning gold in individual freestyle events. Awesome stat, and makes me excited about the future of swimming worldwide.

There is no way Caeleb Dressel and Regan Smith should have swam in the heats of the mixed 4 x 100 meter medley relay.

Regan Smith was coming off a 200 FL/200 BK double the prior evening session and was scheduled to swim the final of the W 200 BK during the evening session. If anyone needed a break, it was Regan Smith. Hunter Armstrong was available to swim the backstroke leg of the mixed 4 x 100 meter medley relay. Furthermore, Hunter Armstrong had not swam since Day 2. So much for putting fresh swimmers on the relays and giving the other swimmers a rest.

I don’t disagree with you from a pure performance perspective. But just want to point out that the athletes WANT to swim these prelim relays. They have significant financial impacts bc of prize money and also contract incentives. That extra gold for Regan might have been worth $25,000. It’s not like they’re be forced into duty.

That load wouldn’t have been a problem for Dressel before his hiatus.

I’m not on this level (by a long shot), but I noticed as I got older (20s into my 30s) that my best swims stayed about the same or even got faster, but it was less predictable and I had a higher proportion of bad swims. I could imagine that is happening with Dressel. I think he isn’t done yet, but I could imagine him swimming a reduced program in the future.

Neither of them would have improved their placing anyway. At least they got a free gold

USA Swimming looking forward to 4 years from now? The likes of Dressel, Fink, Held, Kalisz, Murphy, Pieroni most likely won’t be around in 4 years.

Huh?

The winning time in the women’s 100 meter breaststroke at the Toyko Olympics (1:04.95) was faster than at the Paris Olympics (1:05.28).

The M 1500 FR at the 2024 Summer Olympics wasn’t even close to the drama of the W 1500 FR at the 2013 World Aquatics Championships. In addition, Lotte Friis and Katie Ledecky both went under the previous World Record in the W 1500 FR (15:42.54).

The minimum pool depth should be revised to 2.75 meters (9 feet).

Do we know for sure that Leon will go back to Bob in Austin in January after he finishes up the World cup stops this fall?

Léon told in a interview for French Television that first he needs a long break from swimming (something like 5 weeks) to go on vacation with his family and then with his friends. He also confirmed that he will return on January 2025 in the US for his studies (I suppose for training with Bob Bowman too). And in the meantime, he will attend the World Championships (25m) in Asia at the end of the year.

I heard Leon say 6 weeks. For the end of his studies, I seem to have read in a French newspaper that he would take his lessons online
