Winter Juniors Qualifier Andrew Rucker Commits To Boston College For 2024-25

Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

Andrew Rucker of Columbus, Ohio, has announced his commitment to further his education and swimming career at Boston College this fall. Rucker trains and competes year-round with the Upper Arlington Aquatic Club, and is a recent graduate of Upper Arlington High School.

Rucker announced his commitment prior to the school parting ways with head coach Joe Brinkman and his staff. Since then, the school has announced that five-time Olympian Dara Torres will be taking over the program.

Rucker, a Winter Juniors qualifier, is primarily a butterfly specialist. This spring he represented his high school at the Ohio High School State Championship (Division I), where he was the 5th place finisher in the 100 fly and 6th place finisher in the 50 free. He was slightly slower in finals relative to prelims, but his prelim times of 49.36 and 20.96 both marked new personal bests.

Ruck’s best time in the long course version of the 100m fly was recorded in a time trial at Futures last summer. In the time trial he stopped the clock at 56.75, which is nearly a second quicker than the time he posted in the individual event to earn 20th (57.49).

Top SCY Times

  • 50 free – 20.96
  • 100 free – 47.99
  • 200 free – 1:43.05
  • 100 fly – 49.36

The Eagles did not compete in the 2023-2024 season after the program was suspended following allegations of hazing. At the 2023 ACC Conference Championship the previous season, the team finished 12th overall.

Rucker’s current best time in the 100 fly would have made him the 5th-fastest on the team during the 2022-2023 season. Matthew Szekely led with a 47.31, while Bryce Henkel and Kyle Floyd were both at 48s with season best times of 48.18 and 48.86, respectively. All three recorded those swims at their midseason invitational and not ACCs.

Rucker is joined by Jordan Mowad, Max Marr, and PJ Nolan in Boston College’s incoming class of 2028 this fall.
