On November 10th, 2009, at the height of the polyurethane-suit era, Brazilian star Kaio Almeida becamse the first man to ever break 1:50.00 in the short course meters 200 fly. At the 2009 version of the Stockholm World Cup, he swam a 1:49.11 to break the World Record.
Not only did Almeida set a World Record, which still stands, but he did so by 1.4 seconds to break the previous mark held by Nikolay Skortskov only 9-months earlier. That 1.4 second margin is the largest margin of record breaking in the history of the event.
