SMU Commit Jack Callan Downs Pair of Record at Oklahoma 5A States

The Carl Albert girls won a tight battle on the girls’ side at the Oklahoma 5A State Championships, while the Bishop Kelley boys were dominant. Bishop Kelley’s Jack Callan set a pair of 5A Meet Records in prelims. Callan, an SMU commit, set the mark with a 1:40.60 in the 200 free before going on to repeat as champion in 1:40.74. In the 500 free, he set the record at a 4:37.74 in prelims. He was just off that to defend his title in 4:37.90.

Callan was also a member of Bishop Kelley’s record-breaking free relays. He joined with Ian Wilson (leadoff- 22.19), Paul Hunt (22.39), and Preston Hoang (22.39) in the 200 free relay. Callan anchored in 21.33 as they set the 5A Record in 1:28.23. In the 400 free relay, Callan anchored with a 46.24 en route to their 3:15.18 record. He was joined by Tyler Hoang (leadoff- 49.57), Sam Duda (49.56), and Preston Hoang (49.81).

Bridge Creek’s Caleb Gregory swept the boys’ sprint titles with a 21.38 in the 50 free and a 47.80 in the 100 free. Heritage Hall’s Owen Flynn also won a pair of golds in the 200 IM (2:00.39) and 100 breast (1:00.79). There were a handful of multi-event champions on the girls’ side, including Heritage Hall’s Gracie Shapard (100 free 54.87/100 back 58.59). Bishop Kelley’s Abbey Mink won the 200 free (1:56.82) and 500 free (5:19.35). Newcastle’s Ashley Leader earned titles in the 100 fly (59.76) and 100 breast (1:07.00).

The Carl Albert girls didn’t win any events, but took advantage of their team depth to earn the title. They took silver in the 200 medley relay, 200 free relay, and 400 free relay. Molly Woodruff earned a pair of top 5 finished in the 200 IM (2:31.06) and 100 breast (1:19.26). Mikayla Seal nabbed a top 5 finish in the 100 free (58.57) and placed 7th in the 50 free (26.89).
