COLUMBUS, Ohio – The men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams are set for a dual meet against Michigan in Ann Arbor on Saturday, Jan. 21.
Meet Info
- The meet is slated to start at 11:00 a.m. and can be streamed live on B1G+.
- The Wolverine men are currently ranked tied for 17th in the CSCAA Top 25 Dual Meet Rankings and the Michigan women are No. 16.
- Both the Buckeye men and women defeated the Wolverines last season in Columbus. The women’s team is looking for its first-ever consecutive dual meet wins against Michigan. The men last defeated the Wolverines in consecutive seasons over 70 years ago; the Buckeyes picked up back-to-back wins in 1950-51 and 1951-52.
Men’s Meet Notes
- The Buckeyes picked up two victories last weekend, upsetting Texas, 189.00-164.00, and defeating Alabama, 230.00-123.00. It was the Longhorns’ first dual meet loss since February 2019.
- The Buckeyes jumped up eight spots in the most recent edition of the CSCAA Top 25 Dual Meet Rankings and are now tied with Texas for fifth place. Ohio State was previously ranked No. 13.
- Alex Quach won the 100 IM with a time of 48.23 and the 100 fly with an NCAA B cut time of 46.34.
- Charlie Clark placed first in the 1000 free, finishing in 8:49.84. He finished second in the 500 free with an NCAA B standard time of 4:21.38.
- Ruslan Gaziev finished second in the 200 free with an NCAA B cut time of 1:35.33. He won the 50 free, finishing in 19.90, and the 100 free, finishing in an NCAA B standard time of 43.37.
- Quach (46.88) and Thomas Watkins (47.21) both turned in NCAA B standard times in the 100 back; they finished first and second, respectively.
- Chachi Gustafson (1:47.10) and Jean-Pierre Khouzam (1:47.99) placed second and third in the 200 fly.
- In the 1-meter dive, Mo Noaman placed fourth with an overall score of 308.60, which is an NCAA Zones qualifying score.
- Lyle Yost scored a 408.60 in the 3-meter dive to take first place; it is an NCAA Zones qualifying score. Noaman (365.40) and Jack Matthews (334.60) also recorded NCAA Zones qualifying scores.
- Watkins picked up a win in the 200 back with an NCAA B standard time of 1:42.67.
- The Buckeyes also picked up wins in the 200 medley relay (1:26.20), 400 free relay (2:53.76), 400 medley relay (3:09.69) and 200 free relay (1:18.67).
- Quach and Sam Campbell earned Big Ten weekly awards following their performances. Quach was named the men’s Swimmer of the Week and Campbell claimed the Freshman of the Week award.
Women’s Meet Notes
- Last weekend, the Ohio State women defeated Alabama, 220.00-133.00, and fell to Texas, 196.00-157.00.
- Josephine Panitz placed second in the 100 IM with a time of 55.03. She also placed second in the 100 back with an NCAA B standard time of 1:57.20 and in the 200 breast with an NCAA B cut time of 2:11.46.
- Gwen Woodbury (9:50.53) finished third in the 1000 free and Maya Geringer (9:54.24) placed fourth.
- Amy Fulmer earned a second-place finish in the 200 free with a time of 1:47.43.
- Tristan Harrison finished second in the 100 back, swimming the event in 54.16.
- Felicia Pasadyn’s NCAA B cut time of 1:57.20 in the 200 fly earned her a second-place finish. She also finished second in the 200 back with an NCAA B standard time of 1:55.77.
- Fulmer (22.53) and Teresa Ivan (22.60) finished second and third, respectively, in the 500 free. Both of their times are NCAA B standard times.
- The relay team of Katherine Zenick, Harrison, Ivan and Fulmer won the 400 free relay, turning in an NCAA B cut time of 3:15.70.
- Lena Hentschel (285.05) and Jackie Brenn (277.65) recorded NCAA Zones qualifying scores in the 1-meter dive. Hentschel placed fourth and Brenn placed sixth.
- Fulmer placed second in the 100 free with a time of 48.81 and Zenick finished third with a time of 49.34. Both times are NCAA B standard times.
- Ciara McGing placed sixth in the 3-meter dive and her score of 294.90 is an NCAA Zones qualifying score.
- Zenick finished the 100 fly in an NCAA B standard time of 53.33 to place third.
- The Buckeyes closed out the two-day double dual meet with a win in the 200 free relay (1:29.22).
