A trio of national records came down in the prelimary session of the Men’s 200 IM as Greece’s Andreas Vazaios, Luxembourg’s Raphael Stacchiotti, and Norway’s Sindri Jakobsson all supplanted their countries’ previous records.
Vazaios posted a swift 1:54.82 out of the final heat to stand 4th amongst all swimmers this morning. The time eclipsed the previous Greek record of 1:55.26 from all the way back in 2009 by Romanos Alyfantis.
Stacchiotti came off his new national record yesterday in the 400 IM to set a new mark in the 200 IM with a 1:55.53 in Heat 4. This swim broke his own record of 1:56.11 from last year’s World Championships in Doha, Qatar. He will also get a chance to lower that time as he placed 7th overall in prelims.
Finally, Jakobsson took down the existing Norwegian record of 1:57.76 with a 1:56.15 of his own. This previous record had belonged to Gard Kvale from the 2008 European Championships.
