The Liberty swimming & diving team swept Atlantic Sun Swimming & Diving weekly honors for the fourth time this season.
Senior Maddie Freece was named ASUN Women’s Diver of the Week, while junior Grace Isaacs was tabbed as ASUN Women’s Swimmer of the Week.
Freece has earned a program-record seven conference diver of the week honors, including two this season (also Oct. 31). Isaacs receives her first career swimmer of the week award.
So far this season, Liberty has earned five ASUN Diver of the Week honors and four ASUN Swimmer of the Week awards. The Lady Flames swept the awards on Oct. 3 (Mary Herndon, Kamryn Cannings), Oct. 31 (Maddie Freece, Abbie Shaw), Nov. 21 (Mary Herndon, Kamryn Cannings) and Jan. 23 (Maddie Freece, Grace Isaacs).
A native of Lansdale, Pa., Freece led the Lady Flames with a combined 529.30 points between one-meter and three-meter diving on Saturday at VMI. She won three-meter diving with a scored of 272.50, narrowly edging out teammates Chloe LaCount (271.15) and Grace Gooding (270.60). On one-meter, Freece finished in second place with a score of 256.80, just 0.7 points behind teammate Grace Gooding.
Hailing from Charleston, S.C., Isaacs earned two individual-event victories on Saturday at VMI, the second straight meet in which she won two events. Isaacs opened the meet by wining the 100 backstroke in 58.83. It was Isaacs’ first time compete in the 100 backstroke in a collegiate meet. The junior won the 200 IM in 2:08.54, defeating the nearest competitor by nearly a second.
Liberty closes out its regular-season schedule with a two-day dual meet against Campbell, Friday and Saturday at Liberty Natatorium. The Lady Flames will honor 10 senior student athletes prior to Saturday’s 11 a.m. session.
