Konrad Czerniak provided the highlight on the second day of the Spanish Championships in Malaga posting a 51.37 in the men’s 100 butterfly.
Czernaik’s time puts him first in the world rankings taking over the top spot from American Jack Conger who posted a 51.64 earlier this year.

His time is also the second fastest of his career and only 22 one-hundredths of a second off his lifetime best of 51.15.
Yauhen Tsurkin of Belarus finished second in a time of 52.20. Tsurkin’s time places him third in the world rankings. Jose Manuel Valdivia Canizares finished third in a time of 53.13.
Mireia Belmonte took the women’s 400 IM in a time of 4:36.14 putting her second in the world rankings with only Aimee Willmott having posted a faster time this year.

Beatriz Gomez finished second in a time of 4:40.65 followed by Catalina Corro Lorente who touched in a time of 4:41.02. Gomez’s time places her 11th in the world rankings while Lorente’s puts her 12th.
Miguel Ortiz blasted a spectacular 50 backstroke winning the event in a time of 24.86. His time puts him second in the world rankings only one one-hundredth of a second off Camille Lacourt‘s world leading time of 24.85.
The swim was extremely impressive considering that Ortiz’s best time was a 25.40.

Juan Miguel Rando finished second in a time of 25.08 followed by Juan Fancisco Segura Gutierrez who hit the wall in a time of 25.33. Rando’s time places him in the world rankings while Gutierrez’s time puts him eighth.
Marc Sanchez Torrens and Alexis Manacas Santos had an entertaining race in the men’s 400 IM with Torrens coming out on top recording a 4:16.61. Santos finished second in a time of 4:17.28. The two men have now situated themselves seventh and ninth in the world rankings.
Alejandro Garcia Martin finished third in a time of 4:20.29.
Melanie Costa Schmid took the women’s 200 freestyle in a time of 1:58.01 placing 10th in the world rankings. Alice Mizzau finished second in a time of 1:58.52 putting here 16th in the world rankings while Chiara Masini Luccetti took the bronze in a time of 1:58.82.
Mercedes Peris won the women’s 50 backstroke in a time of 28.52. Peris’ bettered her season’s best of 28.56 moving up in the world rankings one spot from 11th to 12th.
Laura Fernandez finished second in a time of 29.04 followed by Duane Da Rocha who hit the wall in a time of 29.16.
Elena Di Liddo took the women’s 100 butter fly in a time of 58.96. Di Liddo beat her previous season’s best of 59.28 putting her 16th in the world rankings. Svenja Stoffel finished second in a time of 59.27 followed by Judit Ignacio who touched in a time of 59.44.
Victor Manuel Martin took the men’s 200 freestyle in a time of 1:49.01.

If there’s one thing Poland knows how to do, it’s how to churn out male butterfliers. I’m also extremely excited to see Radislaw Kawecki later on this summer. I feel like those two in particular have some serious talent and with luck they can get some upsets in the flys and backs against even the greats, such as Phelps, Clary, and Lochte.
It is interesting that you singled out Polish male butterfliers when the greatest ever Polish butterflier is a female.
